FALL/WINTER 2019 PREVIEW

For my current Autumn/Winter 2019 collection, I went back to the drawing board in order to come up with a fresh new idea. I spread photographs from approximately 20 designers lookbook images on the floor and surrounded myself with five mannequins that effectively became my canvases. I allowed my ideas to take me somewhere new.

I was looking for something more imaginative for the season. More colorful. But since I have been notorious for mostly selecting a neutral color palette, I realize that I’d created something people had grown reliant on. I hope that I’ve achieved the right balance.

When I curate the season’s styles, I select the clothes that I want to wear. I chose garments for my life and my taste, and hope this sensibility resonates with my clients ~ creative women who are independent thinkers and do not follow trends. Women who have a high appreciation for quality.

Being in Sag Harbor makes a big difference to  me; it helps me to be decisive. I am able to make choices that are right for myself, and for everybody else.  I learned it’s best to select what I like and what feels good, and to be as free as possible in terms of creativity, color combinations, and finding new shapes for my clients.

I like to be spontaneous, and keep my creativity alive, take on a certain project when I am ready. Everything has its moment, and I don’t like to force things. I always feel that I should be growing, expanding, exploring different styles, finding different points of view. I hopefully don’t stay static...that’s what is exciting for me.

Being raised in the fashion business has made certain aspects of professional life easier. I have always existed in an environment of creative people who love quality. Growing up with my dad as a fashion manufacturer, and studying his designer’s stick-figure sketches, I have always been in touch with how to express myself through style.

New and Noteworthy: A signature of the brand Officine Gererale is impeccably tailored jackets with added zeal for mannish looks. The 1980’s power suit is revisited by Officine Generale in this black blazer. The accompanying white shirt in soft sustainable cupro is just as fancy.

I’d love to keep the buttons unfastened, creating a long straight line with the sensational checked wool classic jackets. The simplest of contrasts can have a powerful effect. A white cotton T-shirt and black denim trousers, both by Officine Generale, can be teamed with a plaid blazer.

There’s a lot to smile about from Katherine Hamnett. Today’s young consumers want ethically produced clothing; Hamnett is the pioneer of this conviction. She is dedicated to making her collection as ethically and environmentally and sustainably as possible through the responsible use of materials, process, and packaging. The collection is a reintroduction that embodies the original attitude, energy, and spirit that made the brand what it is today, created for self assured women who have an evolving sense of who they are.
